To address this gap in the market, John Stuart founded Fuell, a UK-based company that offers a platform—developed in collaboration with Oxford University and the European Space Agency—to help companies provide wellness programs to lone workers. Unlike conventional employee wellness solutions that educate users through fitness and health-based literature, Fuell’s platform takes a more direct approach to healthy living. By leveraging its partnerships with leading wearable technology giant Garmin, and links with Apple, Google, and Fitbit, Fuell’s platform can seamlessly integrate with any fitness wearable used by the employees to gather critical health stats – at a more basic level it also works with Android and iOS smart phones. This functionality enables Fuell to facilitate the creation of fitness challenges that allow users to compete in running, swimming, cycling, and more.
Additionally, the platform also includes lone worker health monitoring, which tracks critical health parameters like sleep, stress, heart rate, and more, to provide timely intervention in case of an adverse event. “We can monitor if an employee is not sleeping well through their wearable device data, and provide tips to help them manage their sleep better,” remarks Stuart.

Riding on the coattails of such leading-edge capabilities, Fuell has ignited several client success stories across multiple industries such as transportation, construction, oil & gas, and others. Highlighting the platform’s efficacy is Mickey Rooney, UK regional manager at GSH Group, who says, “The Fuell platform is a simple and engaging way to promote health and wellbeing for large volumes of people. It creates shared activity goals that I can see, extending beyond the challenges and into the workplace.”

Looking ahead, the company plans to expand Fuell Fleet’s capabilities by working closely with its partners. With these collaborations, Fuell aims to incorporate additional health sensors and bolster its ability to spot fatigue in lone workers. Currently, Fuell is working with doctors from Manchester University to improve its awareness of how fatigue can lead to bad decision-making and other risks. “We are also looking forward to providing a more robust employee wellness platform to worldwide users at the lowest possible cost and, with the fleet market, we see a role in risk management as we work to create healthier drivers.” concludes Stuart.
